Phew! I am soooooo glad I never got a vampire facial! I have wanted to give it a whirl to help my skin ever since reading about it on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, but as a recent grad trying to survive in New York City I did NOT have the funds. Now I’m reading that the popular blood-infusion treatment maaaaaay have given two New Mexicans HIV. To that I say, no bueno.
A much more economical skincare regime I’ve gotten into recently is CBD oil. CBD stands for cannabidiol, which comes from the cannabis plant, yes, but no, Mom, it is NOT pot. Mainly because it doesn’t get you high. It DOES have cannabis’ famed anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties, the latter being what makes it so good for your skin.
When a friend first recommended CBD oil to me, I was skeptical. Cannabis is bad! But I’ve increasingly seen CBD turn up as an ingredient in the creams and lotions of brands I trust. So I bought some generic CBD oil online and tepidly rubbed it on my face one night before bed. It did create a soothing effect, and I feel asleep almost immediately. As an added bonus, my face did not transform into that of the Wicked Witch of the West overnight, as I’d half feared. It was just a one-time application, but some problem areas of my face seemed maybe even a little healthier? I wasn’t sure, but I decided to make CBD oil an every-night thing for me, at least until any negative side effects arose.
After about six months of nightly use, CBD oil has been a revelation. My skin is clearer now than it ever was during my years-long experience with Proactiv. My acne is basically a thing of the past. Oh, CBD, where were you when I was in high school?
