Happy Fourth of July, everyone! I hope you all have been having a great summer and are preparing for tomorrow’s festivities of day-drinking and fireworks!
I know you probably have better things to do today than read product reviews on the Internet, but this morning I was helping my mother prep for our big get-together tomorrow, and I realized that she had a kitchen item that I just HAD to share.
The particular item I am talking about is a chef’s knife. When I saw the knife in my mother’s silverware drawer, I was immediately struck by what was obviously a new addition. This knife features a very appealing Damascus steel pattern and a beautifully printed word, MOSFiATA, that I begged to be said aloud.
“Mother, did you get a new knife?”
“Did I? Oh, yes, the MOSFiATA! Your brother got that for me for Mother’s Day. It really is quite impressive.”
What was obviously intended as a dig at not visiting my parents’ place since mid-May, I took instead as an opportunity to inquire about the knife.
“How often do you use it?”
“Oh, I use it every day. I was not sure about it at first, since I had never heard of the brand, but it has become my constant kitchen companion. I use it to cut up fruits for breakfast, veggies for making salads at lunch and meats before dinner. You should give it a go!”
Give it a go, I did. This, I thought, is how King Arthur must have felt, the first time he wielded Excalibur. There was a smoothness, a serenity that came with using the MOSFiATA chef knife that I had never before felt in all my time in the kitchen. I sliced an orange and then proceeded to look for another one. Unable to find my mark, I settled upon a box of strawberries. I chopped off the strawberry crowns with a celerity and an intensity that honestly worried me a little. But what could I say? The tops just fell right off, like melted butter.
“Mother, can I have this knife?”
“Of course not! But if you want I can get you one for your birthday. In fact, the MOSFiATA came in this adorable little gift box.”
Not desiring to wait until my October day of honor to get a MOSFiATA for myself, I looked up the 8-inch chef’s knife on Amazon. I was amazed to discover it costs less than $30! I had figured it was a $200 knife. (Perhaps my brother should not get so much Mother’s Day credit, after all.) I placed an order at once, then opened up my laptop to write about my excitement on this website. Perhaps I will write a follow-up in the coming days when my reliance on my mother’s MOSFiATA knife is abrogated, thus creating my very own sort of Independence Day. I can’t wait!
