Beach Tents Supersize Beach Protection
Yesterday, I wrote about the surprising utility of clear backpacks at the beach. Considering it was my first time traveling in what feels like an eternity, expect a lot of beach-related content from me this week.
Today, I want to tell you about a product that seemed to be all over the Outer Banks: the beach tent. Pop-up beach tents have been around forever, but I left North Carolina with the impression that they are now more popular than ever. It is not hard to see why.
A beach canopy tent takes the all the benefits of a regular beach umbrella and increases their scale. It provides protection from the sun and wind. But being larger, it provides greater protection. Whereas beachgoers often have to deal with the threat of heavy winds blowing their umbrellas away, the beach tent is designed to stand up to the elements.
In proselytizing for beach tents, I would be remiss if I did not mention their greatest asset: Dogs love them. There were many dogs at the beaches of Corolla, including my own, and long exposure to the sun and heat was a problem. Many families with dogs were equipped with beach tents, allowing their dogs to step into the shade and rejuvenate before going back to hunting ghost crabs or sneaking mouthfuls of sand.
Why the sudden surge in popularity of beach tents? Perhaps it is added protection for all the pandemic puppies purchased during COVID. Whatever the reason, you may as well join the party and get one for yourself before you set out on your very own beach trip this summer.
