These Patriotic Gnomes Can Be Delivered By July Fourth
In the old days of Amazon, Prime members could count on getting their orders delivered to them in two days at the absolute latest. Now you are lucky if you get it in a week. This is something to keep in mind if you find yourself playing host to an impromptu Fourth of July party this upcoming holiday weekend. If you need items quickly, your best bet is to go to a traditional retailer like Walmart or Target. If you are dead set on the so-called Everything Store, your options will be limited by the date of arrival.
Go ahead, give it a try. Search “Fourth of July decorations” on Amazon.com, then take a look at all the expected delivery dates. You would never know that it is not even July yet.
Out of all the kitschy Independence Day party paraphernalia available, there was only one thing that caught my eye that Amazon guarantees can be here before the weekend. Honestly, I don’t think I would have ever considered them had the state of affairs not been so drastic, but now I think they are kind of adorable. They are plush gnomes:
Mr. & Mrs. America (or perhaps Herre & Fru) are just kitschy enough to make an excellent addition to Independence Day celebrations. Even better, if you subscribe to the notion that Leif Erikson rather than Christopher Columbus should be honored as the real discoverer of the nation, here you have two patriotic representations of that tradition.
At 10 inches tall, the red-white-and-blue gnomes are a rare instance of a product actually turning out to be larger than the image suggests. Though you may be skeptical now, opening these little guys up (well in advance of your get-together!) is a surefire way to put a smile on your face.
