What if I told you one of the most popular products on all of Amazon was a throw blanket designed to look like a flour tortilla? Would that surprise you? I know I was taken aback. I saw this picture of the “burritos wrap blanket” and immediately wrote it off as something utterly ridiculous:
And, of course, it is utterly ridiculous! But in this nonsensical, nihilistic age in which we live, apparently some people—a lot of people!—just want to escape the world and play-act Chipotle menu items. Nearly 40,000 customers have reviewed the burrito blanket, and a whopping 90% of them deemed it worthy of a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
Not a Tex-Mex fan? Well, “mermaker” the seller of the burrito blanket, also sells blankets designed like waffles, chocolate chip cookies, and pizzas.
That’s all well and good, but can we get back to the burrito blanket photo for a moment? Take another look. Overshadowed by the 71-inch culinary “wrap” is the fact that the models in the picture are both wearing reindeer antlers. Anyone care to explain?
I am open to any theories our readers may have. The best I can come up with is that, as they were setting up the photoshoot, the marketing folks had the brilliant idea to lean into the absurdity of it the whole ordeal. After all, here we are talking about it. The other possibility is that, since this product is surely made in China, their grasp on the whole reindeer, Santa, Christmas thing is a bit tenuous.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. The burrito blanket may be silly, but as thousands and thousands of customers have indicated, it can be good to have a little silly in your life.
