When I moved from a house into an apartment, I needed to find ways to create space. That led to my purchase of a one of those over-the-toilet shelving units, which has helped considerably. Not only do I now have a place to put all my toiletries that don’t fit in the tiny cupboard behind the mirror, but it is also elegant enough that it manages to tie the whole room together. Today, I found out about a similar concept for the kitchen—a raised dish drying rack to place above the sink:
For those who have small kitchens and/or limited counter space, this nifty product can make life a whole lot easier. Whether you hand wash your dishes because your apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher, or you hand wash some of them because you do not want them getting damaged, you need some sort of drying rack. Ideally, you want one that (a.) looks nice and (b.) is both spacious enough to hold all your dishware while leaving room on the counter for other culinary activities. This dish rack manages to do both, since it does not take up any counter space at all. And its attractive black color makes it quite visually appealing, a quality much more important in the kitchen than in the bathroom.
Another plus: It is adjustable. Toilets are pretty much a standard size, but sinks are not. Before buying a dish rack designed to be placed above your sink, you need to make sure it fits your sink. This one can be adjusted from 25.6 inches to 33.5 inches.
This drying rack, the “#1 New Release” according to Amazon, can hold up to 90 pounds. This means you can store more on it than just wet dishes. Soaps and sponges, for example, fit nicely in one of the unit’s baskets. The biggest qualm one might have with hanging soaking plates from a height is that it will get everything below it wet. This is true. Therefore, the manufacturer cleverly designed the product so that the water drops down back into the sink. In other words, right back from whence it came.
