Admit It, You Are Going To Get The AirPods Max

We had finally accepted the fact that AirPods are actually good (albeit obnoxious and overpriced). Now here comes Apple once again to test our resolve. If you thought AirPod Pros were expensive, wait until you hear about the AirPods Max. These over-ear headphones retail at a whopping $549.

Nobody needs this. There are much better headphones out there for true audiophiles, ones whose performance justify price tags north of $1000. And then there are also other noise-cancelling over-ear headphones from brands like Bose and Sony that go for between $200 and $300.

Of course, headphones like the Bose QuietComfort 35 have a significant disadvantage when compared to the AirPods Max. Namely, they are not AirPods. No matter how good their audio is, no matter how much of a value they are at the price point, they will never be the status symbol represented by Apple’s AirPod line.

For a few months (conveniently the same few months when the product will be out of stock) people will kvetch about the AirPods Max. They will loudly bemoan Apple’s business strategy and market dominance. And in due time, they will buy the AirPods Max. Now that everyone is stuck at home, with interpersonal interaction limited to Zoom, rocking AirPods Max will quickly become a must.
